St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital Names Thomas McIlwain, MD as Vice President of Quality and Performance Improvement
St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital (St. Luke’s) announces Thomas P. Mcllwain, MD as Vice President of Quality and Performance Improvement. In this role, Dr. Mcllwain provides leadership and guidance in the overall design, development and implementation as well as evaluation of quality performance improvement activities. Aditionally, he serves as St. Luke’s Patient Safety Officer.
“Dr. McIlwain’s expertise will ensure that St. Luke’s continues to provide the highest level of care to our patients,” says Margaret M. Van Bree, DrPH, chief executive officer, St. Luke’s, and senior vice president, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System. “His experience and guidance will be a true asset as he works collaboratively with our leadership team and medical staff.”
Prior to joining St. Luke’s, Dr. Mcllwain served as Vice President of Clinical Quality/Patient Safety at Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His responsibilities included quality, safety and physician education for the healthcare system, which included 22 clinical sites.
Dr. Mcllwain attended Medical University of South Carolina. He is a board-certified psychiatrist as well as certified in clinical effectiveness from the Harvard School of Public Health. Additionally, he has completed the Patient Safety Officer and Improvement Advisor programs offered by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, where he also is a George W. Merck Fellow. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. McIlwain is also a graduate to the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Collage at Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas.
