St. Luke's in the Texas Medical Center Ranked Among Nation’s Best Hospitals for Cardiology and Heart Surgery for 23rd Consecutive Year

In its annual survey of “America’s Best Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report has ranked St. Luke’s in the Texas Medical Center among the nation’s elite healthcare institutions. Additionally, Texas Heart® Institute at St. Luke’s remained in the top 10 for Cardiology & Heart Surgery for the 23rd consecutive year.

“Congratulations to the physicians and staff of St. Luke’s and the Texas Heart Institute for their commitment to clinical excellence and exceptional patient care,” said Margaret M. Van Bree, DrPH, CEO, St. Luke’s in the Texas Medical Center, and Senior Vice President, St. Luke’s Health System. “Twenty-three years of staying power is a remarkable achievement.”

St. Luke’s in the Texas Medical Center ranked nationally in the following specialties: Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery and Pulmonology and also was designated high-performing in the areas of Cancer, Ear, Nose & Throat, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology.

“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just three percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty.”

St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital also received recognition from U.S. News & World Report, ranking among the Best Hospitals in the Piney Woods region of Texas and designated as a high-performing hospital in Geriatrics.

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who require a higher level of care because they face a particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures, such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.

The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International—a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.
