St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital Receives Re-Certification for Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, Fit Hearts

St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital (“St. Luke’s”), home of Texas Heart® Institute, announces it has received re-certification for its Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, Fit Hearts, by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), marking the third three-year term that St. Luke’s has received accreditation. Fit Hearts helps patients who have experienced a recent cardiac event or heart disease recover faster and return to full and productive lives. The goals of the program are to improve patients’ physical fitness, increase their understanding of heart disease and provide support for lifestyle changes. St. Luke’s was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care.

“St. Luke’s and Texas Heart Institute are world-renowned for cardiovascular excellence. Recognition by such organizations as AACVPR continues to support our dedication and commitment to our cardiovascular patients,” says Margaret M. Van Bree, DrPH, chief executive officer, St. Luke’s, and senior vice president, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System.

St. Luke’s participated in the one-month application process, which required extensive documentation of the program’s practices. The AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by the AACVPR and other professional societies.

St. Luke’s was the first organization in Southeast Texas to become accredited by AACVPR. Certified AACVPR programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.
